In recent years, the number of tourists visiting Turkey has increased at a rate that is almost three times the world average, with 23.3 million people visiting Turkey in 2007. In 2006, there were 19 million, while in 2005, 21 million visited Turkey. The Culture and Tourism Ministry, which has established a 10 million dollar budget for the North American market in 2008, plans on bringing 1 million American tourists to Turkey by the end of the year." Turkish Leather Industry's New Target: The US Market

The USA is the biggest market for imported leather products, with an expenditure of $27.9 billion and 23% of the world demand, according to end-of-2005 figures. According to global import figures, it has a share of 28% in shoes, 27% in leather clothing and saddlery and 7.9% in fur clothing. The annual clothing, shoe, and accessory per capita consumption is around $680.

After the first shock of 9/11, the Turkish-American Association (TADF) in New York stepped in as soon as possible. They were receiving telephone calls from Turkey one after another. Those who hadn’t heard from their relatives and friends were worried whether their people were also in the building.

Adem Arici first sees a flash, then a thick layer of smoke over the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11, while he is crossing the Brooklyn Bridge. He is the owner of one of the top supermarket chains, Amish. He immediately calls his shop, which is next to the World Trade Center.
