Taking place in Zonguldak of 1941, the film reflects the demanding atmosphere of the World War II, and the time is the time of taking responsibilities. At the center of all this tumult is two young, poets in the prime of their twenties: Muzaffer Tayyip Uslu and Rüştü Onur. Struggling with tuberculosis, the young poets cherish only one dream: to publish their poems in Varlık Journal (still a prestigious literary journal). Meanwhile, upon seeing Susan, the daughter of the notable person of the city Mr. Zihni, the young poets make a bet. Each will write a poem and read it to Susan. The one whose poem is less liked will fade from the scene. Upon their meeting arises a friendship between three.
